Zombie Pandemic-- A quick chat with the developers... and perhaps an Easter Egg

Blog of the Living Dead continues to follow the intrepid team of artists, programmers, producers and everyone else that have come together to create awesome games-- online, offline, wireless...

Zombie Pandemic is one of these.

We've chatted with the producer Thomas Bjørn Krogh-Jacobsen, for a quick follow up to our discussion prior to, and during development.

What were the challenges in producing this game?
Creating a browser game provides a number of challenges in terms of the back end architecture of the game setup. Naturally most people will focus on gameplay features but we actually have spend a lot time working scalability and performance (load times for end user) being some of the major challenges as the game attracts an international audience. Right now our server is located in Germany but we will shortly have to place a server in the US as well. We are also working on several optimization features which will speed up the game significantly.

Are the Facebook version and Web version the same?
Yes they are essentially the same game world with same core gameplay mechanics however Facebook will enable a few more features related to social media such as an easier invite-your-friends interface and similar features.

Are there any features you would like to include in the next release?
Well we got the "custom avatar" system coming soon which will enable you to see what equipment and clothes your character is wearing. Its been in the pipeline for a while but redoing and customization all the graphics required is very demanding task.

Was this a full-time production for your team, or do you guys have "real" daytime jobs    ;)
We started as a hobbyproject 3 years ago but quit our daytime jobs this summer to dedicate our selves full time and spend all our savings on the project. We a no where near on making a living on it though and thus also work as web development consultants to pay the rent  :-)

Oh-- and about that Easter Egg...

"...there is an office building-- unassuming but quite dilapidated.  Once upon a time, it might have housed a great company, a company that tried to warn of the impending disaster...   (some history is here, some helping tips are here)... don't be afraid... come inside.  It's warm..
