"World War Z" has been added to the line up of movies to be released at the end of 2012. Paramount Pictures have locked December 21 as the release date for the post-apocalyptic horror film starring Brad Pitt. The date put it to be in competition with Johnny Depp-starring adventure movie "The Lone Ranger".

The Marc Forster-directed film will also have to compete against two other movies, Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" and Phillip Noyce's "Hunter Killer", on the scheduled date. It should also be noted that the date placed this zombie war movie to come out just a week after "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" hits theaters across the United States.
Currently in production, "World War Z" is based on Max Brook's novel "World War Z: an Oral History of the Zombie War". Its story is said revolving around "United Nations employee Gerry Lane, who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself."
In addition to tackling the leading character, Pitt also takes the role of a producer. The star of "The Tree of Life" is joined in the cast ensemble by Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and Daniella Kertesz.
