Toronto: City of the Living Dead

People outside of Toronto may not know this.  But people living in Toronto are fully aware that Toronto really is the City of the Living Dead.

While the entire world is slowly becoming engulfed in a mental zombie apocalyptic blanket, Toronto has been curled up in it for decades.  The last few months of this year leading up to Halloween and the end of the world has drawn more and more of the undead out of their comfy pine boxes, and into Toronto streets and favorite haunts.

And for good reason.  We've been preparing for the end since the beginning.  How so?

The first gathering for a non-promotional event, and billed as a "Zombie Walk" was held in Toronto in October, 2003 by one Thea Munster.  She will be attending this years' Walk, and we will try and catch up with her to get some exclusive ramblings.  This year will see John A. Russo and Russ Streiner (of Night of the Living Dead fame) as the Grand Marshals for the walk.

The Zombie Walk folks participated in Scarefest 2012, as well as the Toronto Comic Con 2012.

Not enough dead for you? The Toronto After Dark Film Festival runs from the 18th to the 26th.  Always a favorite destination after a long bout of draggin' that one bum leg a couple kilometers during the Zombie Walk!!!

Hundreds of movies are shot in Toronto each year, and a great many of them are zombie movies. With George Romero making is residence here in Toronto (yeah, another reason the dead live here), many of his feature films have been shot here...  Land of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Diary of the Dead, Survival of the Dead,.  The Resident Evil series:  Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Afterlife have set up camp here as well.

This year the Heart and Stroke Foundation-- CPR & The Undeading is going for Guinness Book of World Records for the largest number of people trained in CPR at one time on October 25th.  They will be promoting their undertaking at the Zombie Walk.  Check out their booth!

Still not convinced?

"Evil Dead - the Musical" -- a smash hit that is still running around the world!

"Night of the Living Dead-- LIVE"

And to top it all off,  "Night of the Living Dead-- LIVE" is being produced in Toronto through a conglomeration of creative forces, including George A Romero and John Russo themselves, Nictophobia Films, the director of Evil Dead the Musical, Chris Bond, and makeup masters the Butcher Shop.  They will have a booth at the Zombie Walk-- and Blog of the Living Dead will be there-- drop by and say hello and get the skinny on this crazy production.  And also check out their INDIEGOGO page right NOW, before it's too late... Barbara....

Our good buddies over at The Zed Word had an opportunity to chat with John Russo and Russ Streiner as they gushed with appreciation about working with Nictophobia Films on this new project!
