Bath Salts Face Eater / Canadian Bus Decapitator may be indications of the impending Zombie Apocalypse.

Tim McLean.
Who cares what Vince Li looks like?
Note:  This posting contains descriptions that some may find disturbing.

This is not a lark.

To the chagrin of the Mclean family, Vince Li has been allowed supervised external passes to the "free world" outside his psych-hospital.  Li is the guy you likely read about in 2008, who stabbed a passenger (Tim McLean) on a Greyhound Bus, then cut his head off and ate pieces of him.  In Canada.  On the bus.

A cannibal. The police have called him that. A nut-case?  Well, apparently he's "doing well" as he's being let to roam outside of his hospital cell. One really has to wonder how freakingly screwed up one has to be to do what he did.

And now, more horror!

Apparently, a Miami man, 31-year-old Rudy Eugene, who went on a naked rampage, attacking a homeless man and chewing off his face before being shot dead by police, has caught national attention because of the horrific nature of the crime. The news has also brought to light a drug that has since mostly escaped national attention, a narcotic that apparently goes by the street name, "bath salts."

Oh, and what about that New Jersey nut-job who cut his stomach open, and threw some of his intestines at Police officers...

Chewed off his face???!!!  Cut off his head and ate parts of his body???  Creative use of intestines??!

Oh and now, straight out of Dexter,  some psycho filmed himself killing his gay lover, and all manner of horror, like dismembering him, defiling the body with sex acts, and cannibalism.  Oh, he also mailed body parts to the government and two schools (so far). He also tortures kittens.  Yeah, he's Canadian too.  If we're not too careful, we're gonna lose our squeaky-clean happy-go-lucky, hoser image.

Sweet Je*us!

Update:
Luka Magnotta, the main suspect in this last atrocity listed above, has been arrested in Germany (Monday June 4) and returned to Canada.

Another Update:  Miami Face-eater Rudy Eugene's autopsy is out now-- it wasn't Bath Salts.  I guess he was just a zombie. (Thursday June 28)

Danger! 50,000 Zombies! with Nick Frost & Simon Pegg

Steamdragon at Zombie Pandemic brought this to my attention.  It is a hilarious 30 minute episode of a UK TV series called Danger!  50,000 Volts! where Nick addresses topics that can kill you, and how to avoid that from happening.

In this episode, called Danger! 50,000 Zombies!, Nick addresses the ever present danger of a zombie apocalypse, and with the help of Dr. Russell Fell (Simon Pegg with a honking set of chompers, and a predisposition to freezing mid dialogue, and then coming to and carrying right on), presents various scenarios and what to do should you find yourself in the middle of said scenario.

These are the outtakes from the episode (which are funny as hell in their own right).  Look for Danger! 50,000 Zombies! at your video store, online...online.  Yeah, online.

Yet one more reason to wear a Seat-belt!

Even when it wasn't the law (here in slippery-road-black-ice-even-in-June-Canada), my Mom insisted that we all buckle up-- and there were to be no shenanigans-- no cheating, like taking that frigging annoying shoulder/chest strap, and tucking it behind you so it doesn't eventually saw your head off with all that chafing.

And I can still see that glare in my rear-view mirror every time I drive my car.  Oh, I buckle up.  I sure do.  And here's one more reason why...

With zombie movies like these, who needs video games?

Chris Mackowski has written an article for Scolarsandrogues.com, with the hypothesis that many of the current plethora of zombie flicks have all the attributes of video games.  This observation is nothing extremely new, makes sense, and here's why.  The Hollywood film meat-grinder is so afraid to take any chances these days with film development, distribution and promotion pushing costs into the hundreds of millions of dollars.  That's why we have seen films based on films (sequels) best-selling books-- and now even fairy tales (Snow White & the Huntsman, Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games, Red Riding Hood), best-selling comic books/Graphic Novels (Spider-Man, Batman, The Avengers, Sin City, 300), and even best-selling board games (Clue, Battleship).  And of course, we have the movies based on video games (Resident Evil, Doom, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Silent Hill).  The video games lend themselves, probably more than other media, to movies-- as the video games attempt to become more and more cinematic.

'The World's End' with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright

Quentin Matheson, often contributor to Blog of the Living Dead, has brought this to my attention.
In his words:   "Aw yeah, the two best comedies of the past decade are finally getting a companion to round out the trilogy. My expectations are sky high!"
Newswire and Sean O'Neil reports:

After years of working separately but not always equally, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost are finally set to reunite on The World's End, the promised capper to the super-bloke trilogy launched by Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. As with those films, World's End concerns some immature every-dudes clinging stubbornly to their stunted ways amid ominous circumstance—in this case, old drinking buddies whose epic pub crawl unfortunately coincides with the apocalypse that is hitting approximately half of the movies over the next year or so, because obviously we've all got something on our minds. Deadline reports that it's expected to shoot in September with an eye on release in the spring of 2013, at which point Wright can resume fielding questions about and/or working on the equally long-promised Ant-Man for Marvel, provided he's not saved by the bell of the actual apocalypse.

Promiscuville: Rise of the Dead by 'Chris Wade'-- Book Review

Review by Amanda Gallant

“Promiscuville” is the name of the run-down city in which the story takes place. In the novel, "Promiscuville" is portrayed as a hub for criminals and the “lower beings” of society, and you get the sense that this wouldn't be the place to find your dream home.

I found many of the characters in the story to be unlikable, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your point of view. The character development was slow, intensified by the fact that I didn’t like or identify with many of them.

ZOMBIES! Hit and RUN! mobile game

Wanna run over zombies.  Do you thrill at the splat of a good kill-- you know, one that really deserved it?  I know I do.

Then you'll love: ZOMBIES! Hit and RUN!

Toronto Canada based developer 11&10  Games is proud to announce its newest offering "ZOMBIES! hit and RUN!" available for Android devices.

Juan Of The Dead Movie Review

Fast zombies, slow zombies, Nazi zombies, pet zombies, zombie sheep, zombies from space – truly new ideas for undead movies, you might think, are in short supply But while the mechanics of the zombie movie are now familiar to all but the most casual moviegoer - “You’ve got to shoot ’em in the head”, and so forth – it’s when the genre’s used as pure satire that it retains its power to amuse and mesmerise.

Writer and director Alejandro Brugués’ Juan Of The Dead doesn’t bring anything radically new to the walking dead genre, but in locating the basic template to Havana, Cuba, it immediately finds ways of surprising and shocking its audience. This isn’t to say that Juan is at all scary, however; like Shaun Of The Dead, it’s too playful and packed with in-jokes and references to shock, and its low budget (roughtly $3 million) means its gore effects are cheesily grim rather than stomach-churning.

The Walking Dead - PC/Console Game Review!

Telltale's spin on The Walking Dead drops us in the same universe as the comics, telling a story that runs parallel to the events in that version of the world. Production on the game began before the TV series blew up, in case you wondering why they would approach the series from a tighter niche than that of the TV audience, but since the characters and events of the game only glance the stories of the show and comics, you don't have to worry about your preferred canon being disrupted. You take the role of Lee Martin, who you join in the back seat of police car, cuffed and being escorted away from Atlanta after being convicted for murder. Predictably, things go south (if you'll excuse the expression), and Lee finds himself on foot trying to escape reanimated corpses.
